Paul Fortin is Director of Business Development. Paul has over 20 years of domestic and international business development expertise working within the legal, defence and security, and information technology sectors.
Paul began his career in marketing with IT companies iSTAR Internet, PSINet, Corel Corporation and telecoms systems and hardware provider Crosskeys Systems.
As a non-lawyer, Paul has held senior business development positions in two of Canada’s largest law firms Gowling WLG LLP and Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG). At BLG, he was responsible for the firm’s Defence and Security, Life Sciences, Intellectual Property, International Trade and Investment Groups as well as development and oversight of the firm’s international strategy. This involved work in UK, the US, Asia Pacific and management of the firm’s Beijing office.
Paul was involved in supporting prime and subprime clients in accessing major defence procurement projects. He has a working knowledge of all aspects of the defence procurement process including RFI/RFP response support, export controls compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, Industrial Technological Benefits, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions as well as government relations. He has also worked with the diplomatic community in Ottawa and, more specifically, defence attachés.
Paul has also served as a Global Affairs Canada “Champion” where he was frequently invited to participate in Government of Canada trade missions to speak on doing business in Canada and attracting foreign direct investment.
