Paul Fortin is an Associate and Senior Consultant with David Pratt & Associates, a government relations and strategic consultancy firm located in Ottawa, Canada. Paul has over 20 years of domestic and international business development expertise working within the legal, defence and security, and information technology sectors.
Paul began his career in product marketing, client capture, retention and channel development for iSTAR Internet, PSINet, Corel Corporation and telecoms systems and hardware provider Crosskeys Systems.
He has held senior business development positions in two of Canada’s largest law firms Gowling WLG LLP and, more recently, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG). At BLG, he was responsible for the firm’s Defence and Security, Life Sciences, Intellectual Property, International Trade and Investment Groups as well as development and oversight of the firm’s international strategy. This involved work in UK, the US, Asia Pacific and management of the firm’s Beijing office.
Specific to the defence sector, Paul was involved in capturing and supporting prime and subprime clients in accessing major defence procurement projects. He has been exposed to all aspects of the defence procurement process including RFI/RFP response support, export controls compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, Industrial Technical Benefits, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions as well as government relations.
His network includes exceptionally strong ties to influencers within the defence industry and diplomatic, political, trade and defence attaché network. Paul has served as a designated Global Affairs Canada “Champion” where he was frequently invited to participate in Government of Canada trade missions to speak on doing business in Canada and attracting foreign direct investment.
