The poppy is one of the most recognized symbols in Canada. It is revered by millions of Canadians and serves as an instant reminder of the sacrifice and service of the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces. It is also an important symbol of the ongoing service and work of the Royal Canadian Legion. Close to 20 million dollars is donated during the National Poppy Campaign each year, and goes directly into supporting Veterans. This is achieved through critical programs and initiatives pertaining to a range of issues such as homelessness, food insecurity, operational stress injury and the application process for receiving government benefits. Donated funds also support Veteran families and communities, and help promote Remembrance. The Legion also serves by advocating for veterans and for maintaining valuable social ties through their local branches. COVID has hit The Royal Canadian Legion very hard. Fundraising is very difficult and many branches have had to close temporarily due to COVID restrictions.
More than ever, it is important to support the Legion and the work that they do. Please remember to make a donation and wear a Poppy. Please also consider an on-line donation through their website: https://www.legion.ca/donations
